Situated in the states far north, Broome is over 2,200 kilometres away
from Perth and is best know known for its long stretches of unspoilt
beaches. Today, due to Broome’s unpolluted waters, South Sea pearls are
among the most coveted in the world and this attracts tourists’ world
wide.
The population within the radio licence area of Broome is 13,078. Over
35% of the population is aged over 40 years. The birthplace for 91% of
the population was Oceania including Australian, New Zealander,
Indigenous and Islander persons. Of the 2,283 people attending an
educational institution, 53% were either in infants or primary, 22% were
attending a secondary educational institution, 13% attending TAFE and
12% attending University or another tertiary institution. Of the 3,575
people who already have a tertiary qualification, 28% have a degree and
72% have a certificate, diploma or another tertiary qualification.
Of the total dwellings (3,834) in the Broome radio licence area, 17%
of dwellings are owned outright and 24% are mortgaged. Private rental
